Vancouver Legion win 1st SFL Championship
The Vancouer Legion defeated the Mexico City Aztecs 37-17 Friday night to claim the franchise's first Championship in 17 seasons. Vancouver becomes the first new champion in the SFL since the Atlanta Swarm won their first in Season 14.
It was the largest margin of victory in any Championship in league history. After each of the three Mexico City scores, Vancouver responded with scores of their own and eventually pulled away. The Legion never trailed and earned 421 yards in the win.
Christian Brown threw for 317 yards, Devin Lloyd rushed for two touchdowns, Brett Killian racked up 135 yards through the air, Jack Russell totaled 20 tackles (15 solo) and Marquis Reid got in the backfield six times.
For SFL Hall-of-Famer Andy Hamilton, it was a long but exceptional road to the team's first title. Vancouver has won the sixth most games in SFL history and has the fifth best win percentage at 59%. It was Vancouver's 24th playoff game, fourth most all-time.
Season 26 of the SFL will kickoff Friday January 23.
