SFLm/Rookie Updates: Draft order, rounds, eligibility, playoffs

by Cameron Irvine

The Simulation Football League has a number of updates and outlooks for the upcoming SFLm postseason and Rookie Draft heading into the holidays.

SFLm FALL Standings and playoff picture:

- The current playoff format calls for five teams if the same team wins both the spring and the fall seasons, or six teams if different teams win each half of the season. Nashville won the first half, compiling a 5-1 record but does not stand atop the fall standings. With two weeks to go, those look like:

  1.  San Jose (4-0)
  2.  Albuquerque (3-1)
  3. Nashville (2-2)
  4. Philadelphia (2-2)
  5. Lexington (2-2)
  6. Pittsburgh (2-2)
  7. Bossier City (1-3)
  8. Chicago (0-4)

If the playoffs started today, the standings would look like this:

  • Nashville (7-3) and San Jose (5-5) would receive the top two seeds and first round byes
  • Lexington (7-3) would be the No. 3 seed and face Pittsburgh (4-6) the No. 6 seed in the Wild Card round. The Riverhogs are tied with the Steamers (4-6) for the current 6-spot. They've split the season series, but the team's win in the fall beats the Steamers victory in the spring.
  • Philadelphia (5-5) would be the No. 4 seed and face Albuquerque (5-5) the No. 5 seed in the Wild Card round. The Cougars have beaten the Atoms twice this regular season.

The final two weeks of the regular season will be Saturday November 30 and Wednesday December 4.

The playoffs will air Sunday December 8 (Wild Cards), Friday December 13 (Semifinals) and Wednesday December 18 (Championship).

  • Arizona and Albuquerque finished with the same win %. Arizona's head-to-head win over the Atoms in Season 23 broke the tie.

  • Vancouver, Charleston, Atlanta and Nashville all finished with a .500 record in 2024. Charleston and Vancouver each had 1 playoff win and appearance. The two teams did not play each other in 2024, so the most recent success of Charleston was used as the tiebreaker. Atlanta had two appearances and no wins. Nashville had no appearances.

The league will ask for opt-ins sometime after the final regular season games are played on December 4 and before the draft on December 14. If there are not enough qualifying players for a two round draft, the league will be forced to drop Season 24's offering to just one round.
