The lights came on, the fans roared, and the SFLm roared right back â Season 11âs opening week delivered everything we could have hoped for and more. From gritty championship rematches to jaw-dropping debuts, the minor league wasted no time reminding us why we love this game.
Championship Rematch? Same Result.
In a clash dripping with history and friendly competition, the San Jose Flight once again grounded the New York Gargoyles in a 23-13 victory. The reigning champions looked every bit the part, with a balanced attack and disciplined defense that kept the Gargoyles just out of reach. For New York, itâs back to the drawing board â but with plenty of season left, donât expect them to stay quiet for long.
Anchorage Howls into the League!
The Anchorage Wolves couldnât have scripted a better league debut. In front of their home crowd, they shocked the veteran Philadelphia Cougars with a confident 31-17 win. Anchorageâs offense clicked early and often, while their defense made life miserable for Phillyâs passing game. Itâs only Week 1, but the Wolves have already staked their claim as more than just a feel-good expansion story.
Hellhounds Unleash Fury!
If the Wolvesâ debut was impressive, the Birmingham Hellhounds might have one-upped it. In their first ever game, they marched into San Diego and handed the Aces a devastating 31-0 shutout. It was all Hellhounds, all the time â suffocating defense, explosive offense, and a statement to the rest of the league: Birmingham is not here to play nice.
Week 2 Matchups â Whoâs Got the Edge?
August 12 @8PM EST -Â San Diego Aces at Philadelphia Cougars â The Aces will be desperate (read: determined) to bounce back after their Week 1 disaster, but the Cougars are also licking their wounds from an upset loss. Expect fireworks as both teams fight to avoid an 0-2 start.
August 12 @10PM EST -Birmingham Hellhounds at San Jose Flight â The Hellhounds were dominant in their debut, but the reigning champs are an entirely different beast. Can Birmingham keep the momentum rolling, or will San Jose remind them who runs this league?
August 13 @12AM EST -Anchorage Wolves at New York Gargoyles â The Wolves impressed in their opener, but a road trip to New York is a true test. The Gargoyles will be hungry after falling to San Jose â this one could be an instant classic.
If Week 1 taught us anything, itâs that this season wonât be short on drama, surprises, and big plays. Week 2 is loaded with potential statement wins â and we canât wait to see who delivers! - ED.
