SFlm Season 10 - Season Delayed, Coding Challenges

by Alex West

Hello SFL family! I hope everyone had a wonderful holiday, and that your New Year is off to a great start! Overall we definitely made merry, but the West household has been navigating some rough seas over the past 4 weeks; I've gained an incredible appreciation for the amount of work and effort that Cameron Irvine puts in every off-season just to get the next season up off the ground. So, let's talk about the headlines.

SFLm Season Start Delay: Due to the compressed timeline between seasons, holiday season turmoil, and ongoing technical development challenges, I will be delaying the start of the SFLm season and opening of the SFLm Portal by one week. This additional time will help ensure a smoother launch and better experience for all participants.

Player Progression Update: The functionality to advance player stats by a total of +6 requires portal recoding, which is proving to be more ponderous and difficult than initially anticipated. As an interim solution, players will be able to progress their initial +3 through the portal as usual, with the additional +3 being processed through a league-monitored Google Form for Minor League Rookies. This ensures the promised progression can continue while development work is completed, but players will have to do their own math to ensure they can afford the stats they want to purchase. Reinforcement players and Dev League players will not progress in the minor league roster file over the course of a season, to help us draw attention to the talented rookies on the field.

Dev League Implementation Status: The tool required to create a separate league for Dev League players within the portal needs repair. As such, I've made the decision to postpone the Dev League launch until we can properly separate these players from the Rookie pool. When the third league implementation becomes available, we will create Dev League rosters based on player overalls at that time. In the meantime, all players who would have been Dev League eligible will receive financial compensation based on their current bank balances. Until the Dev League player list is established, SFL reinforcements will help fill in the starting 11 for each team, prioritizing the lowest overall rated players at any given position group.
