SFLm Franchise Spotlight: Anchorage Wolves

An Exclusive Sit-Down Interview

ARTICLE BY ELI DEIOMES [S'cylle Aldmiir] | SFLm Media Director
Alaska has always been wild — now it’s getting ferocious.

The Simulation Football League’s newest frontier team is here: the Anchorage Wolves, led by first-time owner Ryan Davis, a veteran player, coach, and leader with a hunger for both competition and connection. Backed by a bold brand and a cold-blooded identity, Davis is ready to run with the pack — and leave the rest of the league howling for mercy.

SECTION 1: Getting to Know You

Eli Deiomes: Let’s start at the beginning — how did you first discover the Simulation Football League, and what pulled you in?

Ryan Davis:
Honestly, it was just a fortunate scroll through the Fubo TV listings. I came across an SFL game being played and I was just stuck there watching it for a solid hour. I couldn’t believe this was a thing. I had never heard of simulation leagues before that, so I was drawn in immediately. I think being a former athlete myself just doing something other than playing the game really brought me in.

ED: What moment made you think, “Yep, I want to run a team here”?

RD:
I think from the beginning I always knew that was the path I wanted to take, that’s just who I am, I consider myself a leader and I like to build and put together winning teams.

ED: What’s your background within the league so far — have you been a player, coach, media contributor, fan? Tell us a little about your SFL journey.

RD:
I have been in the league for 5 seasons now, 4 seasons in the pros. I played for SXF, Houston, Nashville and now QCC. I was always just a player but this past season I was a coach and front office staff for QCC and I am this season as well. While I was just a player I still had hopes of becoming more just was waiting for the right opportunity and for someone to give me a chance and I can’t thank QCC enough for that.

ED: How would you describe your leadership style in one sentence — and what would your team say it actually is?

RD:

Lead by example, I am a big proponent of leading by example for leadership roles. I’m not afraid to have the late nights and constant pulling my hair out to prepare for these games and seasons. I believe the team would say the same as well as me being to the point because I can be very blunt at times.

ED: Outside of football, what’s something that people would be surprised to learn about you?

RD:
This is always a hard question for me, I don’t think there’s anything that would surprise anyone, I’m a very low key person. I’m a husband and dad of almost 2 kids (one is due in August)!

--------------------------

ED:Well Ryan, it seems you have always had an eye on leadership. You have built this football journey on grit, dedication, and a desire to give others the same chance you were given. As Anchorage’s pack alpha, you obviously brings a sharp edge and a steady heart to the field — and you're only just getting started.

Let's take a walk on the wilder side, and get to know your thought process when it came to branding the team and building the look.

SECTION 2: Team Identity & Branding

ED: Every team tells a story. What’s the story behind your team’s name and branding?

RD:
I don’t exactly have a story behind it exactly but I have always been someone who loves creating teams and brand for fun, so I had a few I was choosing from! I chose Anchorage because of the fact that not a lot of people choose Alaska for sports teams  (even though the SFL has an Alaska team before). Alaska is somewhere I’ve always been fascinated with because of how wild it is. As for the wolves mascot, I have always LOVED wolves, I love how ferocious they are and their pack mentality which is exactly what a football teams needs!

ED: What made you choose your color scheme and logo elements? Any hidden meanings?

RD:
I would say the entire logo and color scheme I did my best to embody the Alaska feel for summer and winter as a whole if that makes sense. I really just wanted it to match and feel like that city/ state

ED: If your team mascot could talk, what would its catchphrase be?

RD:
Just one? That’s tough, but here are a few I like:
- Fear the howl.. we hunt as one!
- Born to hunt. Bred to conquer
- Howl. Hunt. Dominate

ED: In three words or less, what “vibe” should your team give off when they hit the field?

RD:
Relentless. Ferocious. Disciplined

ED: What’s one branding detail you’re especially proud of that fans might not notice at first glance?

RD:
To be honest I’m super proud of it all, the wolves mural on the stadium, the mountains going around the stadium, all the uniforms look great! I couldn’t be more proud of it all together!

--------------------------

ED:
With a lifelong love of wolves and a fascination with Alaska’s untamed wilderness, you set out to build a team that embodied unity, ferocity, and frozen determination. From striking visual design to the pack-minded slogans, this is more than a look — it’s a legacy in the making.

Now let's take a closer look at the team culture and what you see for the future of the wolf pack!

SECTION 3: Team Culture & Long-Term Vision

ED: What are you most excited for when your team finally hits the field for the first time?

RD:
I would say the competition and connections I’ll build down in the SFLm. I’ve always wanted to help out the young guns and help them have a good time in this league. Competition wise seeing how competitive each game was last season I’m super pumped to jump in there and have some great games

ED: Describe the kind of culture you're hoping to build within your team — on and off the field.

RD:
I just want everyone to love playing for Anchorage. I want them to just have a great time win or lose and know if they ever need anything to hit up me or the staff that decided to join me. At the end of the day it’s all about fun!

ED: What kind of legacy are you hoping to create, both for your team and within the league?

RD:
I want the team to be around for as long as the league is around. I can envision Anchorage lasting a long time in this league! I want to build a legacy of people that just loved to play for Anchorage and had a great time doing so.. and win some championships

ED: When that first win comes — how do you picture celebrating? (Be honest — we won’t judge.)

RD:
Oh I’m going to be super pumped haha but one thing about me is.. I’ll be pumped and happy about the win but I’ll be right back in the lap the same night for the next week!

ED: Five seasons from now — where do you see the Anchorage Wolves?

RD:
I see a few championships, a lot of great players that are Anchorage alumni, and even possibly have the team in the pro league. But whether it’s SFLm or SFL, nothing changes on my end and how I run the team!

--------------------------

ED:In this rapid-fire closing round, I am going to ask you, Ryan, to give us a few final insights into the Wolves’ team playlist, potential traditions, and what you want the rest of the SFLm to know as the Wolves ready themselves to step onto the SFLm field for the first time.

RD:
Sounds great! Let's get into it!

SECTION 4: Game Day Vibes & Final Thoughts

ED: If your team had a walkout song, what would it be and why?

RD:
Of wolf and man- Metallica

I love all types of music but something about the metal ferocity and it being about becoming a wolf. But there are so many songs that can fit the walk out.

ED: If your team was a character in a sports movie, who would you be and why?

RD:
These are some hard questions because there’s so many different ones I would choose for different reasons but I have to go with coach Boone from remember the titans. Just such a classic and his ability to battle through adversity, be inspirational, and build a winning team is top notch!

ED: What’s your dream game day scene — tailgates, music, superstition rituals, you name it?

RD:
I’ll be better off answering this once I get to know them more but I’m saying myself on the grill cuz I make a mean steak, hamburgers and sausages

ED: If the Wolves were a movie, what would it be called? Tagline optional.

RD:
Movie title: Pack Mentality
Tagline: One Pack, One Purpose, Total Domination

ED: Do you have any quirky team traditions you’re planning to introduce?

RD:
A few I can think of off the top of my head would be “Claws out 4th quarters” instead of the 4s in the chat the entire team is posting wolves emojis and wolf paw emojis, another would be “The Last Hunt” theme for playoff games. There’s a bunch I have that could make things fun.

ED: Final message to the rest of the SFLm?

RD:
To all who dare challenge us:
The cold will numb you.
The hunt will find you.
And the pack will end you.
There is no mercy in the North, only Wolves

ED: One thing’s clear: the Anchorage Wolves don’t just play for the scoreboard. They play for the pack.

On behalf of the SLFm, Commissioner Alex West, Assistant Developer J.W Hartshorn, and myself, thank you so much for taking the time to sit down with me and answer these questions; it's been a genuine pleasure to get to know the man behind the wolf pack!

Best of luck in the upcoming draft, and I can't wait to see the Wolves in action!

----------

As the Anchorage Wolves prepare to take the field for their first season, Ryan already knows what he’s chasing: more than wins, more than stats — a lasting impact.

Fuelled by camaraderie, competition, and a commitment to player development, Davis wants to build a culture where players thrive on and off the field — and keep coming back to Anchorage as a place that felt like home.
