SFL Season 27 Rookie Draft Announcement
ARTICLE BY ELI DEIOMES | SFLm Commissioner
The Path Forward Begins Here
There comes a moment in every player’s journey where potential stops being a promise, and starts being evaluated. For the rookies of Simulation Football League Minor Season 12, that moment has arrived.
The Simulation Football League Season 27 Rookie Draft will serve as the official bridge between development and destiny. It is where performances are measured, opportunities are earned, and futures begin to take shape at the professional level.
This is not a formality.
This is not a suggestion.
This is the system working exactly as intended.
Draft Format & Structure
The Season 27 Rookie Draft will follow the same live broadcast format introduced in the previous season:
- 21 SFL Teams will each hold one selection
- The draft will consist of a single round.
- Teams may either:
- Select an eligible rookie OR
- Elect to take a payout equivalent in value to their draft slot.
This structure ensures that every selection carries weight, and that every eligible player enters the process with a legitimate opportunity to be chosen.
The Draft Show date and time has yet to be finalised, but we will bring you an update with that information very soon!
Draft Eligibility Rules
Clarity matters. So does fairness. The eligibility system has been structured to reflect both of these values.
Mandatory Draft Entry (10+ Games Played)
All SFLm Season 12 rookies who have participated in 10 or more games will be required to enter the Season 27 Rookie Draft.
- These players will automatically be declared draft-eligible
- They may not opt out of the draft process
- This currently includes 24 players.
A full list of mandatory draft entrants will be released separately.
This rule exists to ensure that players who have fully participated in the season are properly evaluated within the league’s advancement system, and so that the SFL itself does not see a rapid increase in attribute pricing and a second economy blowout.
Optional Draft Entry (5–9 Games Played)
Rookies who have played 5 or more games, but fewer than 10, will have the option to declare for the draft.
- Declaration details and deadlines will be provided in a follow-up announcement
- Players who do not declare will remain in the SFLm for Season 13A featured Primetime matchup every Thursday
Ineligible for Draft (Under 5 Games Played)
Rookies with fewer than 5 games played will not be eligible for the Season 27 Rookie Draft.
- These players will continue their development in the SFLm for Season 13
- These players will continue to develop following the league instated rules from this current SFLm season (Season 12)
Post-Draft Pathways
Not every player will hear their name called, and that’s by design. A minimum of 24 players, and 21 teams that need to decide if they are taking a chance on their next big star, or if they want to help their bank balances. What really matters is what comes next.
Undrafted Free Agency (UDFA)
Players who enter the draft but are not selected may:
- Declare as an Undrafted Free Agent (UDFA) and pursue opportunities at the SFL level immediately
Return to SFLm (Season 13)
Alternatively, undrafted rookies may remain in the SFLm under the established progression system:
- +6 progression points per week until their contract exceeds $1M
- After exceeding $1M, progression shifts to +3 per week as part of the Development system
Important Note: Players who return to the SFLm and later transition to a Development Team will not receive a second Training Camp opportunity. This ensures that the initial training camp remains a meaningful advantage and not a repeatable safety net.
Draft Conduct & Competitive Integrity
The integrity of the draft process is non-negotiable.
While general communication within the league is understood, the following are strictly prohibited:
- Pre-arranged agreements between players and teams regarding draft outcomes.
- “Backdoor” deals intended to influence selections
- Any attempt to bypass or manipulate the draft system
This is a structured, fair, and earned pathway to the SFL.
Every player deserves a legitimate evaluation. Every team deserves a clean board.
Draft Pick Value Option
As introduced in the previous draft format used last season (Season 26 Rookie Draft), SFL teams will have the option to forgo selecting a player in exchange for a pay-out value tied to their draft position.
Each draft slot carries a predefined value, allowing teams to:
- Address roster flexibility
- Manage cap strategy
- Or defer selection in favour of long-term planning
Full draft pick values will be included in the official "Draft Day" breakdown, coming soon!
This mechanic adds a strategic layer to the process, ensuring that every pick, whether used or converted, carries real significance.
What This Means
For SFLm players, this is the turning point. You are no longer building quietly in the background. You are no longer waiting for an opportunity. You are being evaluated: fully, fairly, and in direct comparison to your peers.
For SFL teams, this is where the next generation begins. Every selection is a decision about the future. Every pass is a statement of intent.
The Standard Has Been Set
The SFLm is not a holding ground. It is not optional. It is not secondary.
It is the proving ground for the next era of the Simulation Football League.
And now, that system takes its next step forward.
Tomorrow's stars. Today's game
