SFL Power Rankings: Chaos up top
And then there were no more undefeated teams. DC goes down in spectacular fashion, the defending champs are made to look like a steppingstone by Vancouver and we finally got to see Pitt & Chicago back in action as top 10 teams and they didn’t disappoint. This week’s voting was down to resumes to see who could nab the top spot and I believe the best one got it done. To Week 10 we go.
voting breakdown
Who else saw the story about the AP voter who moved Florida up one spot and kept USF unranked after the Bulls beat the Gators? She said she’s just having fun with it and in the end there’s so many voters that it all washes out in the end. I agree, as that’s a stance I took earlier this season but it is funny how life imitates art like that. The math really didn’t like DC’s blowout loss and tanked them down to 10th which ended up pushing them down to 3rd this week. Denver is also still fighting the formulas and relishing their chances to prove it wrong. Mexico City holding in the top 5 is slightly surprising but I guess when you lose to another top 5 team it doesn’t look as bad as the shutout did.
Pittsburgh: playoffs or portland?
#6 Pittsburgh Riverhogs (4-2)
Being 4-2 as we enter the later parts of the season looks great, especially for a team that’s struggled at times like Pittsburgh has. But the remaining schedule that have in front of them is what begins to worry me. Six wins just doesn’t cut it like it used to and unless your SOV is top 5 and some things go your way then you’re probably on the outside looking in for the postseason. We need 3 more wins with what we’ve got ahead but DC will be looking for their get back so that’s one loss there. LA should be a win, it has to be if you want any additional football for your season. The Albuquerque game is on the road and we can feel safe in saying that’s a loss. I can’t say my own team is losing at home so the next week at AZ is their 3rd loss. Minnesota has been shaky at best and Pitt has enough offense to erase the Legend so now we’re 6-5. Traveling to big, bad Baltimore to close out your season where you have to win to get in and they may also be mid win streak trying to get in themselves? What a doozy. I had spoken in some other circles that Pitt felt like the new Portland but a win here would separate them from that moniker. I’m giving them the win here for 7-5, we’ll say 10th seed and playing Chicago for the sake of the storyline.
Week 10 premier matchup
#3 D.C. Dragons @ #6 Pittsburgh Riverhogs(-2.5) | O/U 44.5 | Sept. 19th 9:45 PM EST
Talked about them earlier and I do feel like DC will be out for blood and looking to wrap up their seventh win to all but confirm postseason football but Pittsburgh will not be going down easy. The Riverhogs have the 3rd best defense in the league right now and after seeing Sin City cause 5 turnovers on DC they will be looking to do as close to same as possible and they can add in a better defense to lock DC down into less points to overcome with their offense. There’s a clear path to victory here for Pittsburgh but for DC it’s probably as easy as burn that book and go back to what worked in the other six victories and you walk away clean for your seventh.
