Season 23 Schedule Release: Kickoff July 12!

by Cameron Irvine

The Simulation Football League presented by APM Music has released its Season 23 schedule, kicking off Friday July 12 at 6 p.m. ET with the 2X defending champion Florida Storm hosting the Chicago Warriors, which is made up of mostly last season's Seattle Nemesis squad that has made the playoffs back-to-back years led by their electric young quarterback, Ty Ptak. The game is part of a Friday night tripleheader live from the 2024 Convention in League City, Texas that includes the host Houston HeadHunters and co-owner Mike St. Green hosting his sons-in-laws Cory and Butch Mennor and the rest of the Pittsburgh Riverhogs, playing in their first SFL game at 8 p.m. ET. In the nightcap, Southern rivals and best friends meet for the first time at the Convention when Mexico City clashes with Louisiana at 10 p.m. ET.

Season 23 will see the return of the Monday Night Spectacular primetime slate plus Monday's 'SFL This Week' - a weekly highlight show recap with Mike St. Green returning as the show's lead analyst. Charles Dougherty will be back in the analyst spot with Cameron Irvine on all the broadcasts, which includes SyrRon Yates IV's return to Baltimore in Week 2, a Championship rematch in Week 9: Florida at Canton and one of the most competitive rivalries in the SFL - Houston at Mexico City in Week 12. Part of a new Monday night tradition, every Monday the 12th the league honors former players who are no longer with us. This season, Monday the 12th falls in August and in Week 5 the league will have a doubleheader featuring all four teams who have lost players: Atlanta will visit Mexico City and Vancouver will travel to Louisiana, honoring the Swarm's Billy Rae Valentine, the Aztecs' Matt Willson, the Legion's Rich Pratchard and the Revolution's Leonard Butler Sr.

In addition to the Monday night primetime schedule, Mike Daggs, Gerald Smith and the late, great Matt Willson will be taking over Friday nights with a primetime slate of their own starting in Week 2 with the Albuquerque Atoms home opener vs. the Denver Nightwings, who have a lot of buzz around the team this off-season. Other games on the Friday primetime schedule include Marcus Dunhill's return to Atlanta in Week 3 - the first time he'll be back at The Hive since winning the Season 14 Championship with the team - and a rematch of last season's quarterfinal and thrilling overtime finish, Florida at Vancouver in Week 13. The Matt Willson Weekly Kickoff Show will also return, airing 30 minutes before the Friday night games getting you ready for all the biggest games of the weekend.

All 25 teams will play 12 games over 15 weeks, an additional bye added to each team's schedule from previous seasons, which also allows for an additional week of player progression. Week 15 times and dates will be determined following Week 14, but will occur between October 18-21. The playoffs will begin Saturday October 26 and will conclude with the 23rd SFL Championship game the weekend of November 16. For the complete Season 23 schedule, click here.
