Albuquerque Atoms refresh identity ahead of new season

by Cameron Irvine

The 3x champion Albuquerque Atoms will be back in SFLm for Season 8 and with the move to 4K23, have refreshed their identity heading into the season. Albuquerque is the third official team announced for the eight-team league, which will begin play Friday November 10. The other five ownership groups will be announced at the end of September, along with the league's schedule.

Albuquerque keeps their black and slime green color scheme and adds a new figurehead to the brand, overlooking his destruction. The three toxic symbols represent the team's three championships and the two explosions in the goggles represent the back-to-back titles won in Seasons 5 and 6. Albuquerque won its first Championship in Season 2.

The ownership group includes Joshua and Jason Williams, brothers who have been a part of the SFL or SFLm in some capacity since 2018. Jason coached the team to their first Championship and Joshua led the Atoms to their two most recent.

"The Atoms take pride in getting our minor league players the exposure they need and experience to get to the next level," said Jason Williams. “We the Atoms Family!”

Albuquerque joins the refreshed Lexington Miners and the rebranded Philadelphia Cougars as playing members in the reshaped SFLm.

"We are excited to bring a new and refreshed look into 4K23," said Joshua Williams. "The Albuquerque Atoms have been a staple in the SFLm for quite some time and we could not let this great franchise close its doors. We want to give a shoutout to the SFL, SFLm, and (Commissioner Irvine) for the opportunity. We look forward to what the future holds and this one is for all of the Atoms Alumni past, present, and future." #AtomsFamily
